Taylor Sheridan, the creator behind popular Westerns, is bringing one of his best shows to Netflix in June. It’s a fantastic series that’s sure to please both existing fans and anyone new to the genre. Sheridan’s work has been key in bringing Westerns back into the spotlight.
The popular TV show Yellowstone began as a single series, but quickly became a worldwide success. Creator Taylor Sheridan is now expanding the story with several follow-up shows and even some prequels, following the conclusion of Kevin Costner’s character arc. Series like 1883, 1923, Marshals, and Dutton Ranch all explore different eras and perspectives within the Yellowstone world.
Taylor Sheridan isn’t just known for Yellowstone; he’s created and produced other Western shows like The Madison, as well as several genre films. He even has a connected series of three movies – Sicario, Hell or High Water, and Wind River – that explore similar themes. Now, one of these projects, separate from the Yellowstone universe, is heading to Netflix.
Taylor Sheridan’s new Western,
Lawmen: Bass Reeves Will Be Available On Netflix Soon
As a huge fan of Westerns, I’m really excited about Lawmen: Bass Reeves finally hitting Netflix! While Taylor Sheridan wasn’t the creator or writer this time – he was an executive producer – it still has that same raw, realistic feel of his other great Westerns. According to What’s on Netflix, we can expect it to start streaming in the US, UK, and a bunch of other countries as soon as June 1st. It’s been almost three years since the show first came out, so I’m glad it’s making its way to a wider audience!
Created by Chad Feehan, the eight-episode series Lawmen: Bass Reeves originally aired on Paramount+ starting November 5, 2023, with new episodes released each week until the finale on December 17, 2023. When it arrives on Netflix in June, all eight episodes will be available at once. This is thanks to a deal Netflix made with Paramount in January 2026 to bring content from the brand to the platform. Another series by the same creator, Mayor of Kingstown, is also included in the deal and will be streaming on Netflix sometime in 2026.
Why Taylor Sheridan’s 8-Part Western Series Is Worth Watching On Netflix
I know some people were hesitant about Lawmen: Bass Reeves because Taylor Sheridan wasn’t the main creator, just an executive producer, but honestly, you shouldn’t skip it! It’s genuinely one of the best Westerns I’ve seen in a long time. And the fans agree – it actually has a higher audience score on Rotten Tomatoes (93%!) than any of Sheridan’s other shows. Speaking of which, Mayor of Kingstown is also fantastic and coming to Netflix soon – it’s his second highest-rated show with an 84% audience score, so definitely check that one out too!
David Oyelowo, known for his role in Silo, stars as Bass Reeves in the new Western series Lawmen: Bass Reeves. The show tells the true story of Reeves, one of the first African American U.S. Marshals to serve west of the Mississippi River. It’s a powerful and emotional series that explores themes of slavery, faith, and the pursuit of justice. Oyelowo delivers a compelling performance as Reeves throughout his journey, making this Taylor Sheridan series ideal for binge-watching on Netflix. Don’t miss Lawmen: Bass Reeves, premiering June 1st on Netflix.
