I was really fascinated to see one of the actors from Stranger Things actually respond to all the buzz around the finale. It’s the actor who plays Papa, and when someone asked him what he thought of the ending, he didn’t hold back! His answer instantly went viral and honestly, it just added even more fuel to the already intense discussions everyone’s having about how the show wrapped up.
Matthew Modine shares his thoughts on Stranger Things finale
Matthew Modine, the actor who played Dr. Martin Brenner in Stranger Things, wasn’t happy with how the show ended. When a fan asked him on Instagram if he liked the finale, he simply said, “Nope.” He then added that he hopes there’s a ninth episode, suggesting he felt the eighth episode, “The Rightside Up,” didn’t quite deliver a satisfying conclusion for fans.
Modine’s comments mirrored what fans were saying and intensified theories about how the show ended, particularly the speculation around ‘#ConformityGate’. Those who believed this theory thought Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) had created a false reality in the finale and that a hidden ninth episode would explain everything. However, that episode never materialized, and the theory remains unconfirmed.
As a huge Stranger Things fan, I got a kick out of the parody trailer that aired on Saturday Night Live when Finn Wolfhard hosted! It perfectly played on the whole #ConformityGate drama that blew up after the finale. The sketch had Finn’s character, Mike, claiming Vecna had totally faked the ending, and his friends Dustin and Lucas were understandably skeptical. The really clever part was when Mike brought out an Eleven who wasn’t Millie Bobby Brown – it was hilarious! It really tapped into all the fan theories and kept the conversation about that controversial finale going strong.
Bob Newby’s actor, Sean Modine, resonated with viewers who felt the show’s ending was rushed or unsatisfying by jokingly suggesting a ninth episode and referencing his character’s fate. Even though his character died earlier in the series, Modine remains a beloved part of the Stranger Things story, and fans appreciate his insights.
By February 2026, Netflix revealed they were developing more Stranger Things content, such as earlier stories, continuations of the main series, and new shows exploring different aspects of the universe. However, they haven’t announced any plans for a ninth episode beyond the fifth season.
