Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4: Number One Leads Away Missions

Rebecca Romijn, who plays Lt. Commander Una Chin-Riley, has confirmed her character will be leading away missions in the fourth season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The season will premiere on Paramount+ on Thursday, July 23.

Wow, a lot’s gone down in the Star Trek universe lately! It feels like ages since the Strange New Worlds season 3 finale dropped on Paramount+. I just heard they finished filming the fifth and final season of Strange New Worlds right before Christmas 2025. And get this – Starfleet Academy premiered in January 2026 but was sadly canceled just a couple of months later in March. It’s a bit heartbreaking, but apparently, they’ve already torn down and auctioned off the sets from both shows. It really feels like an era is ending.

At CCXP Mexico, the stars of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds – Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Celia Rose Gooding, and Paul Wesley – shared a sneak peek at season 4 with a new trailer and discussed what’s coming up. Romijn mentioned that her character, Number One, will be involved in more ground-based adventures and lead exciting missions over the next two seasons. You can find more details about her comments on TrekBrasiliis and TrekMovie.

Rebecca Romijn says that starting in seasons four and five, viewers will see Una take on a more independent role, leading missions. She explains that Una asks for more time to work directly on planets, and now that she’s embracing who she truly is, she’s able to lead these exciting adventures.

Early episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation established a pattern where the ship’s First Officer usually led teams on missions to planets, while the Captain stayed on the Enterprise. Although TNG later moved away from this, the upcoming fourth season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will feature Number One taking the lead on more away missions.

The trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 offers a sneak peek of Number One participating in phaser battles with Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount). New photos from the upcoming season also show Commander Una Chin-Riley exploring a planet alongside Lieutenants La’an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong) and Erica Ortegas (Melissa Navia).

Given her role handling risky situations while off the ship, and the fact that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds revealed Number One is an Illyrian, Una is a natural fit to lead away teams. As a genetically engineered Illyrian, she’s stronger and more resilient than a human, making her well-equipped to handle dangerous missions.

Una, also known as Number One, deserves a more central role in the fourth season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The show has a large ensemble cast, and she’s often stuck in a supporting position, so it’s time for her to be more involved in the action and have a chance to really shine.

Fans will be happy to see Number One getting more screen time in season 4 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
