Spider-Man’s Most Forgotten Villains Confirmed for Major Movie Event

The movie’s trailer strongly suggests that a popular fan theory is at least partially true, thanks to appearances by several well-known Marvel villains.

The latest trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day gave fans a great preview of what to expect in the next Marvel movie. While the trailer has a lot of details to analyze, the appearance of what seem to be Hand ninjas has fans particularly excited about the fourth Spider-Man film from Marvel Studios.

Who Are the Hand — And What Do They Want With Tom Holland’s Spider-Man?

The Hand, a seemingly immortal ninja cult, first appeared in the 1981 Daredevil comic, issue #174, created by Frank Miller. They claim to be descendants of an ancient, inhuman group that existed long before humans, and are connected to a powerful, evil force dedicated to causing pain and ultimately destroying everything.

The Hand is best known for its connection to Daredevil and Elektra, but its reach extends to other heroes as well. This is particularly true for Spider-Man, who often finds himself in the same circles as Daredevil, increasing the chances of another encounter with The Hand.

While it’s unclear exactly how The Hand will be involved in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, they’re definitely planning to go after Peter Parker. However, Spider-Man might not be their only target – another popular character could be who they’re really after.

Why The Hand’s Presence in Spider-Man: Brand New Day Is Such a Big Deal for the MCU’s Punisher

Back in 2025, there were rumors that the villainous group The Hand would appear in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie, and many people thought they’d be connected to the Punisher. While The Hand and the Punisher usually seem like enemies, recent comic books have actually shown them working together in surprising ways.

In 2022, writer Jason Aaron reimagined The Punisher, having the character lead The Hand with the intention of starting a new, violent chapter. However, this was actually a carefully laid plan to allow a powerful entity to come to Earth, a scheme that was eventually stopped after months of shocking truths were revealed.

As a big fan, I’m a little worried about how Frank Castle might fit into the MCU’s version of The Hand. They might not want to work with him at all! Considering The Hand has been so closely tied to Daredevil’s story since the old Netflix shows, I’m starting to think we might not see Jason Aaron’s awesome Punisher storyline adapted for the movies, at least not as part of the current Spider-Man saga. It’s a bummer, because that Punisher run was incredible!

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently slated to arrive in theaters on July 31.
