
Reports say American singer Oliver Tree was killed in a helicopter collision near Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday morning. Two helicopters are believed to have crashed into each other.
Oliver Tree Nickell, known professionally as Oliver Tree, has been identified as one of six people who died in a plane crash in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Brazilian news source O Dia reported the identification based on information from local police.
Tree, age 32, was famous for songs like “Life Goes On” and “Miss You.” He was also known for his unique look and funny videos online. He was in Brazil following a performance in São Paulo on June 6th as part of his world tour.
Police name Oliver Tree among Rio crash victims
Police reported to O Dia that there were five people on board one helicopter, and just the pilot in the other.
I was so heartbroken to learn the names of those who died in the crash. They were Oliver Tree Nickel, Lucas Brito Chaves, Lucas Vignale, Gaspar Prim, and the two pilots, Alexandre Souza and Charles Marsillac. It’s just awful.
According to the Associated Press, two helicopters crashed in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday morning, resulting in the deaths of all six passengers. The helicopters collided before going down in the city’s western area. One helicopter hit a car dealership, igniting a fire among the electric vehicles parked there.
According to El País, the crash occurred around 9:00 AM local time, and approximately 20 electric vehicles were engulfed in flames after one of the helicopters impacted the ground.
Officials in Brazil are looking into what caused the plane crash. According to CNN Brasil, the Brazilian Air Force sent a team from CENIPA to gather information, protect any remaining evidence, and evaluate the extent of the damage.
Brazil’s aviation authority, ANAC, announced it is looking into both the airplane and the pilots connected to the incident.
Tree’s newest album, ‘Love You Madly Hate You Badly,’ is available now, along with singles like ‘Miss You’ and ‘Life Goes On.’ He was also planning a European tour starting in July.
