I’ve been a fan for years, and it’s amazing to see this franchise – truly one of the most iconic horror series in gaming – getting a fresh start. It’s been adapted into other media before, but this feels like a whole new chapter, and I couldn’t be more excited!
Zach Cregger, who served as director, helmed the new film, which isn’t based directly on the video games. Instead, it tells an original story set within the same world. Sony Pictures recently released a first look at the movie, which comes out on September 18th.
The First Resident Evil Teaser Officially Launches a New Era
A recent scene filmed in Las Vegas featured Austin Abrams, playing the character Bryan, searching for a phone. He goes inside an empty house and attempts to call his girlfriend.
In another scene, he’s seen running through a snowy field, escaping from various monsters. A voiceover explains he was attempting to reach his girlfriend and clarify why their previous phone call was interrupted.
The bloody trailer depicts him attempting to flee from the monsters, and also shows him saying farewell, seemingly preparing for the possibility he won’t survive.
The new film is being described as a fresh and frightening take on the original series. It centers around Bryan, a medical courier whose night turns into a terrifying, relentless fight for survival after he gets caught up in a chaotic and dangerous situation.
