It’s been quiet for the Ratchet & Clank series since the release of *Rift Apart* in 2021, but fans recently rediscovered a largely forgotten game: *Ratchet & Clank: Clone Home*. Originally announced in the mid-2000s as a sequel to the mobile game *Ratchet & Clank: Going Mobile*, *Clone Home* was canceled before it could be released. Now, after many years, a copy of the unreleased game has surfaced online.
A new video from The Golden Bolt’s YouTube channel (reported by Engadget) reveals the story of how fans finally located a copy of the lost Ratchet & Clank: Clone Home demo. Many gamers joined the hunt, but college students known as “Emily” and “Super Gamer Omega Clank” ultimately succeeded, finding a working copy on an old Sony Ericsson W880i phone. The biggest challenge was unlocking the phone’s security, but they were able to overcome it.
The game’s title hints at a team-up between two sets of Ratchet and Clank: digital copies existing inside a video game, and the real Ratchet and Clank themselves. They must work together to stop Vox, a villain returning from a previous adventure. About halfway through the story, the real Ratchet and Clank get pulled *into* the video game, joining their digital selves.
Clone Alone briefly appeared online accidentally before being taken down. While the existing copy still works, it’s unknown why its sequel, Clone Home, was never released. According to The Golden Bolt, a legal disagreement between Sony and the game’s original developer, Handheld Games (who made Going Mobile), was likely the cause. He also suggests that JavaGround, not Handheld Games, probably developed Clone Home.
Fans of Ratchet & Clank got a couple of exciting things in 2025. Besides the recent news, Grant Parker, a senior designer on Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, shared that he secretly included a small game within the title. While Rift Apart did come to PC in 2023, there are currently no plans announced for a new sequel.
