The upcoming Peaky Blindersseries reveals a major recast.
The new series will have six episodes, taking place ten years after World War II and following the events of the recent Peaky Blinders movie, The Immortal Man. The show has already announced a major casting change, with Jamie Bell (Half Man) replacing Barry Keoghan as Duke Shelby. Now, another of the Shelby siblings will be played by a different actor.
Netflix and the BBC have released the first look at Charlie Heaton, known for his role in Stranger Things, as Charles Shelby. He’s playing the son of Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and Grace Shelby (Annabelle Wallis). You can see the image below.
The character of Charles has been portrayed by multiple actors throughout the series. Will Marwood originally played him in season three, and later Jensen Clarke and Billy Jenkins each took on the role to depict Charles at various ages. Now, with another time jump in the story, Alfie Thomas Bland plays Charles in The Immortal Man.
| Charles Shelby Actor | Duration |
|---|---|
| Wil Marwood | Season 3 |
| Jensen Clarke | Season 4-6 |
| Billy Jenkins | Season 6 |
| Alfie Thomas Bland | The Immortal Man |
| Charlie Heaton | Peaky Blinders sequel series |
Noah Heaton, famous for playing Jonathan Byers on Netflix’s Stranger Things, will be taking on the role of Charles, a character who has been deeply affected by war. Charles has fought in a brutal conflict and spent time living in dangerous territory. Now, he’s trying to build a normal life, but he hasn’t seen his brother, Duke, for years and has completely cut off contact with the Peaky Blinders gang. However, it’s unclear if he can truly leave his past behind.
The follow-up series is now in production, featuring Jessica Brown Findlay (known for Silo), Lashana Lynch (The Day of the Jackal, No Time to Die), and Lucy Karczewski in currently secret roles. Kudos and Garrison Drama are producing the series for BBC One and Netflix, and Cillian Murphy is an executive producer.
This new project builds on the popularity of The Immortal Man, bringing back Cillian Murphy as the iconic Tommy Shelby. The film also reunites several original Peaky Blinders cast members, including Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy, Packy Lee, Ian Peck, and Stephen Graham.
Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Jay Lycurgo, and Barry Keoghan have joined the cast of the popular film, which critics loved, giving it a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The upcoming sequel series is hoping to maintain this success, and the producers are bringing in talented actors to help.
