Everyone knows life is full of unavoidable things: death, taxes, and getting completely trounced by Ninja Gaiden games. Even before challenging games like Dark Souls became popular, Ninja Gaiden was famous for its incredibly fast-paced and demanding gameplay. The new Ninja Gaiden 4 offers something for everyone – you can enjoy a relaxed action experience, or really push your skills to the limit. If you’re aiming for the highest difficulty, though, be warned: one wrong move can end your attempt, so you might want to have a backup controller handy!
Ninja Gaiden 4 offers three main difficulty levels: Hero, Normal, and Hard. Hero Mode is fully customizable and lets players focus on combat by automating blocking, dodging, healing, and movement. You can adjust these automatic features at any point during the game, making it a great way to learn the fast-paced action of Ninja Gaiden 4.
After you finish the game once, you’ll unlock Master Ninja mode, which is a much greater challenge. Even one hit from an enemy can defeat you! You’ll face stronger enemies earlier in the game, they’ll attack from hidden positions, and their attacks will be more powerful. To make it even harder, enemies with rocket launchers will guard each checkpoint, so you’ll need to stay constantly vigilant. Once you choose this difficulty, you can’t change it, so be prepared for a really tough playthrough.
The hardest difficulty in Ninja Gaiden 4, called Death Wish mode, is incredibly challenging. It requires players to complete the game without dying – a feat much easier said than done. To help players master the game, a training mode will be included. According to Jessica Cogswell’s preview, Ninja Gaiden 4 is both a welcome return for long-time fans and a good starting point for new players. She describes it as a game that can be tailored to fit any player’s preferred style.
Ninja Gaiden 4 comes out on October 21st for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. It will also be available through Xbox Game Pass. For PlayStation 5 owners, both a physical copy and a digital download will be available.
