Netflix’s violent new thriller is making a splash with audiences.

The new film, Thrash, is currently the most popular movie in many countries worldwide, including the U.S., Canada, Australia, and several others like Germany, France, and Japan. It premiered on April 10th and has quickly become a hit.

Tommy Wirkola directs Thrash, a new movie about a small town facing danger after a massive hurricane brings sharks into their waters. The film stars Phoebe Dynevor, known for Bridgerton, and Djimon Hounsou, famous for Gladiator. Also appearing in the movie are Stacy Clausen, Alyla Brown, Sami Afuni, and Dante Ubaldi.

Netflix’s new thriller, despite featuring two talented lead actors, hasn’t been well-received by critics. Currently, the film, titled Thrash, has a 37% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 27 reviews, and audience scores are equally low. While these numbers can change, the movie is presently considered ‘rotten’ by both reviewers and viewers.

Alex Harrison at ScreenRant gave Thrash a 6 out of 10, offering a generally positive review. He enjoyed the movie’s classic B-movie feel and noted it successfully delivers on its premise, despite some flaws in how it was made. Harrison explained:

This movie isn’t particularly stylish or memorable, lacking the flair that elevates similar films, and it doesn’t have any truly iconic scenes. However, it nails the overall mood you’d expect, especially as it builds to the end, and ultimately, that’s enough for it to succeed.

Now that Thrash is available on Netflix, it’s too soon to know if it will remain popular with viewers. While reviews haven’t been great, that didn’t stop Netflix’s other shark movie, Under Paris, from becoming a big success. So, this new, intense thriller could also climb the charts in the coming weeks.
