A new Netflixcrime thriller series is dividing critics and audiences.
Following the success of hits like Stranger Things and Squid Game, Netflix is offering a diverse range of shows in 2026 to cater to different preferences. This includes the return of the anime Devil May Cry for a second season, alongside new offerings like the horror drama Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen and the action series Man on Fire.
The new crime thriller, Nemesis, is getting mixed reactions. While critics generally like it – giving it a 90% rating based on 10 reviews – viewers aren’t as enthusiastic, with an audience score of only 51% from over 50 ratings. These scores are likely to shift as more people share their opinions.
The series Nemesis centers around LAPD detective Isiah Stiles (Matthew Law) and his relentless pursuit of Coltrane Wilder (Y’lan Noel). Stiles’ obsession with bringing Wilder to justice is destroying his family life. While Wilder appears to be a successful and reformed businessman, Stiles believes he’s actually a criminal mastermind behind a string of dangerous robberies.
The situation is further complicated by the friendship between the wives of Stiles and Coltrane. The Netflix series, created by Courtney A. Kemp (of the Power franchise) and Tani Marole, has received positive reviews for successfully evoking the feel of classic thrillers like Michael Mann’s Heat, a benchmark crime saga known for its suspenseful cat-and-mouse dynamic.
Reviewers are also highly impressed with the cast of Nemesis, including Gabrielle Dennis, Cleopatra Coleman, Sophina Brown, Ariana Guerra, Michael Potts, Domenick Lombardozzi, Shane Johnson, Stephanie Sigman, Quincy Isaiah, Jay Reeves, Mike O’Malley, and Khalilah Joi. They’ve noted that the actors skillfully bring the story to life, even when the plot gets a bit dramatic.
Viewers have mixed reactions to this Netflix series. Some enjoy it, but others find it predictable and full of tired tropes, making it hard to stay engaged. While the show isn’t perfect, it’s fast-paced and gets right to the point. You’ll quickly know if the premise of Nemesis grabs your attention.
All episodes of Nemesis are on Netflix.
