The latest trailer hints that a long-lost monster, absent for over 60 years, will reappear in the next season of the MonsterVerse series. Last week, fans got their first look at the return of this exciting series based on Godzilla and Kong.
The upcoming series offers quick looks at several new monsters debuting in February 2026, and features the arrival of Kong in the eagerly awaited Apple TV show. One monster, a creature with tentacles, is thought to be Oodako, the Giant Octopus from the 1962 film King Kong vs. Godzilla. This idea is strengthened by details in the series description, which mentions “a mysterious village where a mythical Titan rises from the sea.”
Oodako is a monster from Toho films who once attacked Faro Island, hoping to steal a special berry juice used by the islanders in their ceremonies. In the original film, Kong intervened to defeat Oodako. The monster made a brief appearance in 1966, destroying a fishing boat at the start of The War of the Gargatuas. Since then, Oodako hasn’t been seen and was always considered a minor threat. Now, including Oodako in the Monarch series could finally give this underappreciated creature from the Godzilla franchise a chance to truly stand out.
‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters‘ Will Finally Return in 2026

Apple TV
In 2023, fans of the MonsterVerse got a surprising treat: a Godzilla series on Apple TV, created in partnership with Legendary. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters looked just as good as the movies, and while it made some changes to established Godzilla lore, it told a captivating story focused on the human characters. The giant monster appearances were limited, but each one was impactful and well-done.
The series is coming back for a second season in just a few months. It’s connected to the events in the MonsterVerse films and includes exciting elements like time travel and the Hollow Earth. The first season ended with a glimpse of Kong, and the new season will feature more of him. We can also expect to see several other massive creatures, potentially including some familiar monsters from the classic Godzilla movies. Here’s what the new season is about:
The second season begins with everything at stake for Monarch and the entire world. The story will uncover long-hidden secrets, bringing both heroes and villains together on Skull Island. We’ll also meet a new village and witness the emergence of a powerful, legendary Titan from the ocean. Past events will have major consequences now, complicating relationships between allies and enemies, all while a catastrophic Titan event looms.
Season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will feature Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Joe Tippett, and Anders Holm. Kurt and Wyatt Russell will both reprise their roles as Lee Shaw, with Kurt portraying the older version of the character.
