Microsoft leak reveals smaller Xbox controller with cloud gaming focus

Leaked information suggests Microsoft is working on a new Xbox controller specifically designed for cloud gaming. The leak included pictures, technical specs, and internal documents about the unreleased device.

This leak comes as Microsoft expands Xbox Cloud Gaming to more devices – including consoles, PCs, smart TVs, handhelds, and phones – as a key part of its Game Pass plan.

And it’s happening right after Discord said Nitro members in some areas would get Xbox Game Pass Starter included with their subscription – pretty cool timing, right?

The new benefit gives you up to 10 hours of Xbox Cloud Gaming each month, as Microsoft continues to focus on making games available through the cloud.

Leak reveals compact cloud gaming controller

So, a Brazilian tech blog, Tecnoblog, just dropped some first photos of a new Xbox controller! They also shared what they’re hearing about its specs, and it sounds like it’s being designed with Xbox Cloud Gaming in mind.

The new controller, shown in leaked images, appears smaller than a typical Xbox Wireless Controller. Its button arrangement seems similar to controllers like the HyperX Clutch Tanto and 8BitDo SN30 Pro.

Even though it’s smaller, the controller looks like it has the usual Xbox buttons, triggers, bumpers, and thumbsticks. It also has a USB-C port on top, and an extra button that might be for connecting it to devices or changing how it works.

The most significant new feature appears to be Wi-Fi. Leaked information suggests the controller will connect via both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 6, potentially making Xbox Cloud Gaming smoother on compatible devices.

Recent images appear to show Microsoft is experimenting with different controller colors, possibly including both black and white models.

Microsoft hasn’t officially revealed the new controller yet, so we don’t know when it will be released or how much it will cost. According to Tecnoblog, it hasn’t gone through the necessary certifications in the US, which suggests it’s likely still months away from being available.
