Players in the game Marathon found a way to quickly move around using a glitch, but the game developers at Bungie have announced they’re working on a fix that should be released shortly.
Slide canceling is a technique originally made popular in Call of Duty that lets players move faster. It involves starting a slide and then quickly stopping the animation. This trick has appeared in other shooting games over time, sometimes by design and sometimes as an unexpected glitch. Now, it’s unexpectedly appeared in the game Marathon as well.
Players have found a way to move around the map much faster by quickly switching between sliding and using either a Claymore or an Ammo Crate, then canceling the action. Essentially, it’s a fast travel trick!
It can be a bit tricky to pull off, but this is a really strong strategy in Marathon, especially since the game doesn’t allow for fast movement normally. It lets you travel across the map much faster, and you can surprise other players in battles by quickly closing the distance.
Luckily, it looks like the developers are already working on a fix, and they’ve said it’ll be patched in a future update, so hopefully it won’t be a problem for long!
Bungie promise fix for Marathon slide cancelling soon
We’ve identified a way players (Runners) can cancel slides to move faster, and we’re addressing it. To keep the game fair and balanced, we’ll be releasing a patch to fix this issue soon. Thanks for your patience!

Because it was so difficult to do consistently, this trick that removes a player from the side of the map was probably a glitch, and Bungie has now confirmed that’s the case.
This change will probably divide players. Some people enjoy a noticeable difference in skill level between players in shooters, while others prefer to see rewards based on truly mastering the game’s intended mechanics, not on finding loopholes or unintended advantages.
We don’t know exactly when this update will be released, but you can still enjoy all its features during the first weekend of Marathon Ranked and while playing on the new Cryo Archive map.
