A sequel to the hit movie Superman is planned, continuing the story of David Corenswet as the iconic hero. This new film, currently titled Man of Tomorrow, will further develop James Gunn’s DC Universe and build upon the success of the first installment.
With David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult already set to reprise their roles in Man of Tomorrow, another actor has announced they’ll be back for the sequel. Frank Grillo, who plays Rick Flag Sr. in the DC Universe, shared on Instagram that he’s confirmed for the 2027 film. Here’s what he posted:
Joe Manganiello, referencing a report from The Direct about the upcoming Superman movie, jokingly tweeted that he hoped James Gunn wouldn’t get in trouble for casting several actors from Peacemaker. Manganiello himself has ties to both projects: he voiced Rick Flag in the animated Creature Commandos and played a key role in Peacemaker’s second season, before appearing in Superman.
James Gunn has already stated that Rachel Brosnahan will reprise her role as Lois Lane in the upcoming film, Man of Tomorrow. He told a fan on the Threads platform on September 5th that Lois Lane will have a significant part in the movie.
The upcoming Man of Tomorrow movie, planned to begin filming in 2026, will see Superman and Lex Luthor teaming up to face a new villain, and many fans believe that villain will be Brainiac. Director James Gunn has explained that the film is “a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat.”
A new Superman project is in development, and the Jimmy Olsen spinoff series has found its showrunners. The show will center around Skyler Gisondo’s character within the DC Universe. If the series is greenlit, it will follow Jimmy and other staff from the Daily Planet as they investigate cases involving supervillains.
The DC Universe’s next big movie will be Supergirl, starring Milly Alcock, coming to theaters on June 26, 2026. After that, an R-rated Clayface movie is planned for September 11. Fans can also look forward to the Lanterns TV series, which will premiere on HBO in early 2026, and Man of Tomorrow, scheduled for release on July 9, 2027.
