Anya Taylor-Joy is joining the cast of a project set in the world of Middle-Earth, but the news hasn’t been universally welcomed by fans.
Taking place between Bilbo’s birthday party and the start of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Hunt for Gollum follows Aragorn as he tries to find Gollum before Gollum can tell Sauron where the One Ring is hidden.
The upcoming movie already boasts a strong cast, including Jamie Dornan as Aragorn and returning favorites like Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Elijah Wood as Frodo, and Andy Serkis as Gollum. Now, Anya Taylor-Joy has joined the ensemble, playing a new character named Seren, a Sindar elf. However, some fans aren’t happy about the addition.

While many people agree she’s a great choice for an elf and appreciate her acting, the news has upset some fans because the movie is introducing characters that weren’t originally written by J.R.R. Tolkien.
One fan expressed frustration with the show, asking, “Who are these people? What’s going on? Why do they keep creating new characters? It didn’t improve The Hobbit, and it’s not working in Rings of Power either.”
Someone else shared this concern, saying they enjoy Anya as an Elf but are worried about the new character names announced for the movie. They fear it suggests the film will be similar to, and as poorly made as, ‘The Rings of Power’.

Even so, many fans were excited to see Anya cast as an elf, with several expressing their approval of the casting choices so far. They emphasized their admiration for Anya as an actress, but wished the show wouldn’t deviate so much from the original story, referencing the issues with the previous movies’ handling of Bilbo’s storyline.
Everyone’s saying she was a brilliant pick for the role! A lot of fans are even joking that it was always meant to be, that she was destined to come back to Middle-earth – and honestly, with how ethereal she looks and how much she loves Tolkien’s world, it totally makes sense!
Introducing a new character into a well-known world is always challenging, but despite worries about the movie, fans seem excited about Anya being cast as an elf.
