A new victim has come forward with a second accusation against Johnny Somali, and his lawyer has withdrawn from the case while he appeals his conviction in Korea.
On April 14th, Ramsey Khali Ismael, known online as Johnny Somali, was convicted of several crimes by a Korean court. These crimes involved creating and distributing Deepfake videos featuring other content creators.
The streamer received a six-month sentence at a labor camp, but immediately filed an appeal. While prosecutors originally requested a three-year sentence with labor, the appeal process could actually result in him serving more time in prison than the initial six months.
Legal Mindset reports that a second victim has filed a new petition against Somali. Adding to his difficulties, his lawyer has reportedly stopped representing him while he is being held in a detention center.
Johnny Somali facing second petition for “severe punishment”
A second person has come forward with a new legal complaint asking for harsh penalties against the streamer, according to a legal analyst and content creator.
The individuals involved haven’t been publicly identified, but Legal Mindset suggests it could be anyone who was affected by the case against Somali at any stage.
He explained this isn’t about trying to evoke sympathy, but rather a direct account of what happened from someone affected by the crime. He added that once submitted, this statement will be used as evidence to support a harsher sentence for the defendant.
As I mentioned earlier, we’ve received two petitions. The first was submitted about ten months ago during the course of the case. This new petition, however, was just filed this week and comes from a different victim. Therefore, we now have two separate victims requesting harsh penalties.

Legal Mindset pointed out that because of the significance of Somali’s case, a panel of three judges will review the petitions to ensure a wider range of legal knowledge is applied.
The streamer now has a public defender because his previous lawyer, who was paid by Heonjong ‘Hank’ Yoo, is no longer representing him.
This is significant because the previous lawyer had thoroughly reviewed a huge amount of evidence and understood all aspects of Johnny’s case. Legal Mindset also pointed out that public defenders are typically very busy, so it will take time for them to get fully acquainted with the details.

On May 6th, Legal Mindset reported that the streamer had been exchanging letters with a fan.
In one, Somali claimed that he was “having fun” in the detention centre and compared it to a hotel.
Reports describe the detention centre as having horrific conditions, with six people being forced to share a single cell.
