Japanese police officer stages bomb threat to skip his own farewell party

A Japanese police sergeant is facing potential charges after falsely reporting a bomb threat at a restaurant. He did this to get out of attending his own going-away party at work.

An officer left a note saying “I have planted a bomb” at the restaurant entrance, where his coworkers were planning a retirement party for him.

He then called the restaurant and told a staff member to check the entrance.

Restaurant staff discovered the threatening note and immediately contacted the police, canceling the reservation. Officers investigated but found no evidence of a threat, concluding it was a false alarm.

The officer behind it was the guest of honor

So, I was reading TBS News DIG, and it turns out the investigation led right back to the guy the party was for – the officer himself! It’s crazy how it all connects.

He confessed to everything when asked. His surprising reason was that he simply didn’t want to attend his work’s farewell party.

His plan didn’t go as expected. He intended to retire in March 2026, but the investigation continued until April 30th. At that point, he received disciplinary action and then submitted his resignation.

The Saga Prefectural Police said: “We are extremely sorry and apologize to the victim.”

Recently, Japan has seen a number of interesting police stories. One example is Haku, a small Pomeranian who made history in Miyazaki Prefecture by being the first of his breed to pass the police dog exam – and he did it on his very first try!
