James Gunn Confirms Superman’s Surprise Cameo in Euphoria Season 3

The recent episode of Euphoria included a quick mention of actor David Corenswet, who will be playing Superman in the new DC Universe. After fans noticed this reference online, James Gunn, a co-CEO of DC Studios, has commented on it.

I noticed something really cool in a recent episode! There’s a statue of David Corenswet as Superman in what looks like an office, and it’s from the upcoming 2025 movie. A fan shared a picture on Threads and tagged James Gunn, pointing out how awesome it was that the Euphoria crew got to film there. Someone corrected them, saying it was Peter Safran’s office, but Gunn jumped in to say it’s actually both of their offices – he just doesn’t spend much time there!

Superman’s Popping Up in Unexpected Places

Superman’s appearances in various projects show just how much of a pop culture icon he’s become since his introduction last year. James Gunn’s Superman film was a box office success, earning over $618 million worldwide, and critics generally liked it – it has an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Importantly, it also launched the new DC Universe (DCU) film series.

We’ll be seeing more of David Corenswet as Superman in a sequel, scheduled for release on July 9, 2027. The film will feature an unlikely alliance between Superman and Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult, as they face a new, powerful enemy named Brainiac (Lars Eidinger). Many of the original cast members are also returning, including Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, along with others.

The DCU Will Return to the Big Screen in June

The DC Universe is set to return to theaters next month with a new film launching on June 26th. David Corenswet will star as Superman, following Milly Alcock’s introduction to the DCU with a brief appearance in last year’s Superman movie. This second film in the DCU series follows Kara Zor-El (Supergirl) as she journeys across the galaxy seeking revenge, aided by her dog, Krypto. Jason Momoa will also appear as Lobo.

Following Supergirl, the next DC film will be Clayface, which will center around the famous Batman villain. As for Batman himself, he’s also planned to appear in Andy Muschietti’s The Brave and the Bold, though a release date hasn’t been announced yet. Films about Swamp Thing and Wonder Woman are currently being developed as well.

Euphoria is streaming on HBO Max.
