Jake Paul’s MVP teams up with Capcom to turn MMA stars into Street Fighter characters

Capcom, the creators of Street Fighter, have teamed up with Jake Paul’s MMA organization, MVP MMA, to release new Street Fighter merchandise.

Jake Paul’s company, Most Valuable Promotions, is hosting its first mixed martial arts event on May 16th at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.

The fight card is packed with exciting matchups, including Rhonda Rousey versus Gina Carano, Francis Ngannou against Philipe Lins, and Nate Diaz taking on Mike Perry, among others.

To mark the launch of MVP MMA, the organization has partnered with Capcom to create merchandise showing the fighters as characters from the Street Fighter video game series.

The cast includes Rhonda Rousey as Cammy, Gina Carano as Chun-Li, Francis Ngannou as Akuma, Philipe Lins as Ryu, Nate Diaz as Sagat, and Mike Perry as Zangief.

We don’t yet know if the fighting game characters were selected by the players themselves, or if Capcom made the choices about which characters would face off against each other.

Okay, so the way these characters fight isn’t exactly how their real-life inspirations would. Like, Zangief is supposed to be this huge pro wrestler, and Ryu’s a karate master, but honestly, when the gameplay is this fun, does it even matter?

All the characters on this merchandise are shown with their looks from Street Fighter 6, except for Cammy and Sagat, who have different designs.

Rhonda Rousey is adding another fighting game appearance to her resume, following her previous work voicing Sonya Blade in Mortal Kombat 11.

Recently, several athletes have started collaborating with fighting game creators. A prime example is professional wrestler Kenny Omega, who did the motion capture work for Alex, a new character added in Season 3 downloadable content.

This news follows Capcom’s recent focus on bringing its popular games to wider audiences, including a new Resident Evil movie releasing in September, directed by Zach Cregger, and a Street Fighter movie coming out in October.
