The recent update for Halo Infinite brings back an adored gameplay style reminiscent of Halo: Reach, leaving players with a sense of nostalgia.
Absolutely! The multiplayer mode “Invasion” has now premiered in Halo Infinite, marking a significant milestone as it coincides with the 15th anniversary of Bungie’s final Halo game, which was released on September 14. This mode, known for its one-sided objectives, was first introduced in Halo: Reach, where Spartans and Elites would either attack or defend. The objective for the attacking team would vary depending on the phase of the map being played at that moment. Additionally, each team had distinct weapon loadout options based on whether they were playing as Spartans or Elites, reinforcing the mode’s unique asymmetrical design.
According to a blog post on Halo Waypoint, the Invasion game mode in Halo Infinite is largely similar to what players remember, except that it doesn’t allow playing as Elites. Instead, one team will control Spartans influenced by a malicious Banished AI and have weapon loadouts resembling those of the Elite team from Halo: Reach. Additionally, the mode originally included the option to respawn on a teammate, a feature that is returning for Halo: Infinite’s adaptation of this game mode.
Six Invasion maps, created by the game’s Forge community, will be introduced. Among these, Breakpoint and Recovery are re-imaginings of the Invasion maps from Halo: Reach.
In the latest Warpath update for Halo Infinite, there’s a new feature called Invasion added. This update also introduces a new Operation Pass offering the exclusive Lancer armor set and additional weapon skins. The basic version of this pass is free until October 7, but the premium paid version never expires and can be progressed upon after that date.
Last month, I was thrilled when Halo Studios incorporated the Falcon into Halo Infinite during their Fall Update 2025. This flying vehicle has been a favorite since it was featured in Halo: Reach. Alongside the Falcon, they also introduced the Vestige Carbine, a weapon that shares some resemblance with the Needle Rifle from Halo: Reach.
Regarding the upcoming additions to the Halo series, Microsoft has announced that several new games are under development, though specifics have yet to be disclosed. Last year, Halo Studios (previously known as 343) hinted at future games being developed using Unreal Engine 5. Furthermore, Halo Studios has suggested a forthcoming announcement later this year, although the nature of it is still unknown.
During the June Xbox Games Showcase this year, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer hinted at a new Halo game scheduled for release in 2026 as part of Xbox’s 25th anniversary celebrations. He suggested that fans could expect “the comeback of an old favorite that has been around since the start,” leading many to speculate that he might be alluding to the long-anticipated remake of Halo: Combat Evolved.
