People online came together to donate $15,000 to a teenager who kindly helped an elderly woman with her groceries when her payment card wouldn’t work.
We’ve all been there – that slightly embarrassing moment at the register when your total is a little more than you planned. Sometimes you have to put things back to stay within your budget, but occasionally, a kind stranger will offer to help you cover the difference.
Earlier this year, a Minnesota teenager named Brent Cabahug stepped in to help an elderly woman at a local Walmart. Brent, a high school senior who works at the store, covered the cost of her groceries when her credit card wouldn’t go through.
Cabahug quickly paid a nearly $80 grocery bill for a woman, then immediately returned to work. Dani Dircks witnessed the kind act and was impressed.
GoFundMe started for Walmart worker who covered customer’s bill
Dircks immediately launched a GoFundMe campaign to support the teenager, hoping to recognize him as a local hero for his kind act.
She originally aimed to collect $2500 to help Brent save for his first car, but people have been incredibly generous! As of April 28th, the GoFundMe campaign has raised over $15,000.
Dircks expressed disbelief and gratitude, saying to Brent, “You’re amazing! It’s like you were sent to help me. I learned something really important from you tonight that I’ll never forget.”
People have donated almost $40,000 to help the teenager, with many giving around $100 and the largest contribution being $368.
“You’re a really good person,” a donor said. “I could easily have been the person needing help, and I hope I would have helped someone in the same way. It’s important that we all look out for one another.”
Over the past few months, many people have come together to support various causes, and the story of Richard Pulley recently gained a lot of attention as a prime example.
To supplement their income, a 78-year-old man and his wife, Brenda, have been delivering for DoorDash. An online fundraiser has helped them receive nearly $1 million in donations.
