Horror YouTuber set to direct new Blair Witch Project remake

Dylan Clark, a YouTuber famous for his scary short films, will be directing the latest remake of the popular found footage horror movie, The Blair Witch Project, produced by Blumhouse.

In 1999, The Blair Witch Project really startled moviegoers with its scary story. The film follows three film students who go into the woods to document the legend of the Blair Witch, but they mysteriously disappear.

The original movie was a huge financial success, particularly impressive given it only cost $35,000 to make. However, the sequels haven’t done nearly as well. Fans and critics disliked the 2000 sequel, ‘Book of Shadows,’ and the 2016 film, ‘Blair Witch,’ received only lukewarm reviews.

This updated version aims to fix past issues, and Blumhouse is giving YouTuber Dylan Clark his first opportunity to direct a feature film.

Dylan Clark directed new Blair Witch with original actors as producers

Alongside Clark, the upcoming remake will feature Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams – both actors from the original Blair Witch Project – as executive producers. They’ll be joined by the original film’s directors: Eduardo Sánchez, Daniel Myrick, and Gregg Hale.

Details are scarce about the upcoming new ‘Blair Witch’ film. It was revealed at CinemaCon 2024, and Lionsgate’s Adam Fogelson stated the goal is to bring the iconic horror story to a new audience.

Clark is currently revising the screenplay written by Chris Devlin for a new movie. The director gained popularity on YouTube with his successful horror shorts, like ‘Portrait of God,’ which has been viewed 9.6 million times.

The YouTuber is even set to direct a future-length version of the short for Universal.

It’s cool to see Clark getting involved in movies – it feels like more and more of my favorite YouTubers are making the leap from online videos to the big screen these days. It’s awesome to see them pursue new things!

I was super impressed with Markiplier’s first movie, Iron Lung – it really made a splash! And get this – Jacksepticeye is actually producing an R-rated animated Bloodborne movie for Sony. Seriously, how cool is that?
