Henry Cavill has spoken about the ongoing speculation linking him to the James Bond franchise as it prepares for a fresh start. While he’s often been mentioned as a potential 007, Cavill has now explained his thoughts on the role and what part he’d ideally like to have in the reboot.

Henry Cavill has said he won’t be pursuing the role of James Bond, mainly because he feels he’s too old to start the franchise now at 42. He clarified to Heat Magazine that he wasn’t offered and rejected the part, but simply that the timing wasn’t right, adding that any actor would want the opportunity.

Even though Henry Cavill won’t be the next James Bond, he’s still interested in being part of the series – as a villain. He said he’d love to play a Bond villain if the role was a good fit, calling it a fascinating idea. This comes as the James Bond franchise is starting fresh with a new creative team.

Amazon MGM announced in June 2025 that Denis Villeneuve will direct the next James Bond film. Steven Knight is writing the screenplay. So far, no actor has been chosen to play Bond, and the search for the next 007 continues.

Henry Cavill has experience in the spy genre, having previously appeared in Guy Ritchie’s 2015 film, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., as Napoleon Solo. He also showcased his talent for playing compelling villains as August Walker in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. These roles proved he’s well-suited for action and espionage films.

Henry Cavill has a one-year-old daughter with his girlfriend, Natalie Viscuso, and becoming a father has profoundly changed his outlook on life. He explained that his priorities have shifted, and things that once seemed important now feel less so. He also shared a touching observation: when children recognize him, they don’t see him as an actor playing a role—they genuinely see him as Superman.
