Despite flopping in theaters last year, the latest film from Henry Cavill and Guy Ritchie is now gaining popularity on Starz. The movie, released on April 19, 2024, cost $60 million to make but only earned $29 million at the box office. Currently, it’s the eighth most-watched movie on the streaming service.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare tells the story of a top-secret British commando unit during World War II. Winston Churchill tasks this unconventional team with a dangerous, unofficial mission: to sneak into a port controlled by the Nazis, disrupt their plans, and capture vital ships that could change the course of the war. Henry Cavill stars as Gus March-Phillipps, the bold leader of this scrappy group, who rely on daring tactics, explosive action, and a lot of confidence to complete their mission, which is based on a true story.
Critics and audiences had very different reactions to The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. While critics gave it a 68% rating and called it things like “exhausting” and “forgettable,” audiences loved it, giving it a 91% score and describing it as “super fun” and praising Henry Cavill’s performance. Some viewers even felt it was comparable to a great Quentin Tarantino film.
This film is a fantastic homage to Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds and easily Guy Ritchie’s best work yet. It’s brilliantly violent and exciting – and yes, that pun was intentional! It excels in every element of good filmmaking.
What’s Next for Henry Cavill?

Lionsgate
After a relatively slow 2025, Henry Cavill is poised for a busy return to acting. He currently has four significant projects underway, with some expected to be released next year. These include reuniting with director Guy Ritchie for the action thriller In the Grey, and Voltron, a live-action adaptation currently being finalized, which also features Sterling K. Brown, Daniel Quinn-Toye, and Rita Ora.
Millie Bobby Brown’s Enola Holmes 3 is currently being finished up at Netflix. Plus, Henry Cavill is scheduled to start filming the Highlander reboot – a project he’s been preparing for – early next year. The film will also star Russell Crowe and Dave Bautista, but filming was put on hold when Cavill was injured during training. It’s clear the former Man of Steel is incredibly busy with a lot on his plate.
Don’t miss his great work in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which is now a popular title on Starz.
