Gears of War creator still wants to make game that mixes John Wick and Carrie

Cliff Bleszinski, the creator of Gears of War, has shared his ideas for a dream game. He envisions a blend of the action from John Wick, the supernatural horror of Lovecraft Country, and the telekinetic thriller elements of the movie Carrie.

Man, I remember playing the first Gears of War – it totally changed the shooter scene! I didn’t realize Cliff Bleszinski was such a big part of making that happen back when he was at Epic Games in the 90s and 2000s. It’s a shame things didn’t work out with Boss Key Games though. I was really hoping LawBreakers would catch on, but it just didn’t seem to find its audience, and the studio ended up closing down in 2018.

The designer has largely stopped making video games, but he has shared some ideas about a game he’d like to work on in the future.

Cliff Bleszinski’s has new game “Hollow Point” all mapped out

I’m really hoping the developer eventually gets to make ‘HOLLOW POINT’ – it’s not just the game’s name, but also the name of the town it’s set in, and a clever nod to the type of bullet used! He shared his vision for it on X, and it sounds amazing, so fingers crossed!

The game takes place in a New England town during autumn and features two main characters, currently known only as P1 and P2. P1 is a former Marine skilled with weapons, and P2 is a young woman with psychic and telekinetic powers.

The story centers on a peaceful town threatened by an approaching storm, which unleashes terrifying creatures inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft and Cthulhu. Throughout the five acts, the two main characters will not only try to save their town, but also confront their own personal challenges and grow as individuals.

One character has PTSD, leading to the question of whether the monsters he sees are real. Despite this, his shooting skills are still excellent. The other character is driven by anger and fear, starting weak but becoming incredibly powerful as her fear increases.

“Essentially John Wick meets Carrie by way of Lovecraft Country,” he added.

The idea has already generated a lot of excitement among fans. Now, Bleszinski needs to secure the resources – a development studio, enough time, and funding – to turn it into a reality.

The show he first created two decades ago remains popular, and a new installment, Gears of War E-Day, is expected to be released in late 2026.
