Kit Harington and Sophie Turner, who famously starred as Jon Snow and Sansa Stark in HBO’s Game of Thrones for ten years, are teaming up again for a new medieval movie called The Dreadful. While they faced plenty of challenges in Westeros, the threats in The Dreadful, as shown in the newly released trailer, look even more intense. The film will be released in theaters on February 20th.
As someone who’s followed these actors for a while, I was curious if they’d be hesitant to jump back into such a demanding, medieval world after all that fighting and political intrigue. And while at first glance, The Dreadful might seem a little too similar to Game of Thrones for some viewers, it’s clear the cast was genuinely thrilled to revisit that kind of storytelling – any connection to George R.R. Martin’s universe aside.
Lionsgate describes the movie:
This chilling horror story, set in medieval England, brings together Game of Thrones stars Sophie Turner and Kit Harington, alongside Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden. It follows Anne and her controlling mother-in-law, Morwen, as they fight for survival on the fringes of society. Their lives are turned upside down when a figure from Anne’s past returns from war, unleashing a mysterious curse and a dangerous knight that threatens to destroy everything they hold dear.
Keeping Busy After Westeros

Marvel Studios
Kit Harington isn’t the first Game of Thrones star to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He appeared in 2021’s Eternals alongside Richard Madden, another actor from Game of Thrones. Unfortunately, they didn’t share many scenes together, although a brief scene after the credits hinted that Harington’s character would become the superhero Black Knight. However, because Eternals wasn’t a big success with critics or audiences, it doesn’t look like that storyline will be continued anytime soon.
The much-discussed Jon Snow sequel series is also unlikely to happen soon. While it’s been considered on and off since Game of Thrones finished, the project is currently stalled. Kit Harington is currently busy with his role in the HBO series Industry, which will keep him occupied for now.

Turner is gearing up for a new franchise role, taking on the part of Lara Croft in an upcoming Tomb Raider series for Prime Video. This project, like the Jon Snow prequel, has been in the works for a long time, but this time everything fell into place, and filming is about to begin. Prime Video recently shared the first official images of Turner as Croft.
