I’m so excited! Astral Clocktower Studios just fully released Kristala, the dark fantasy action RPG I’ve been following! It’s finally available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC – you can grab it on Steam or the Epic Games Store. They’ve been working on it in Early Access for almost two years, and I can’t wait to dive in. Plus, they said a Nintendo Switch version is coming later, which is awesome!
Kristala started as a project funded by fans through Kickstarter, earning $110,000. It first became available to players in an early, unfinished form in June 2024.

Astral Clocktower Studios (ACS) is launching version 1.0 of Kristala, its long-awaited dark fantasy action RPG, today! The game is available now on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. After eight years in development, this release is especially significant as the first game from the women-led indie studio, which has gained a remarkably loyal following within the challenging ‘soulslike’ genre. Kristala already has over 100,000 wishlists!
Man, it’s still kinda crazy to think about! Kristala has been a passion project for eight years now – we started with just a few of us volunteering, and now we’re a full studio, all working towards the same dream. Seeing it launch on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox worldwide feels unreal. We really wanted to shake up the genre, give players something new with super-fast combat mixed with platforming and parkour, all in a world ruled by cats! And it means a lot to us that we can also give back by donating part of our earnings to help animal rescues around the world.
Kristala takes place in the haunted world of Ailur and offers challenging, fast-paced combat inspired by games like Dark Souls and Sekiro. Players become skilled feline warriors, mastering quick reflexes and stealth to fight against a dark curse. The game features aggressive enemies, precise timing, and difficulty that adjusts to your skill level. Praised for its beautiful character designs and smooth animations, Kristala combines demanding gameplay with a unique world and story.
To celebrate the launch of the game, ACS is excited to announce that popular creator MickeyMunch (with 4 million followers) will be voicing Gustav Gondasa, a lively and adventurous character in Kristala. Gustav is a Hemani – the first friendly mouse players will encounter. MickeyMunch is known for creating viral content, often using a mouse-like persona while playing games like Roblox and now, Kristala.
Kristala is now available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, and will be coming to Nintendo Switch soon.
Key Features
As a fan, I’m really excited about how Kristala handles difficulty! It’s got this awesome system where the game actually changes how hard it is based on how I’m playing. That’s huge because it means even someone like me, who might struggle with super-hard ‘Soulslike’ games, can still jump in and enjoy the challenge without getting totally stuck. It basically makes the game accessible to everyone, which is fantastic!
Kristala brings a new level of stealth to the soulslike genre. It features a detailed system where enemies react in stages to your presence, allows for movement through the air to avoid detection, and lets you chain together silent takedowns – something rarely seen in similar games.
Design your own cat character! Pick its fur color, length, clan, and starting class. These choices will help you create a playstyle that’s uniquely yours. The possibilities are endless!
Each clan possesses a unique magic system rooted in one of six ancient elements, powered by special Kristals. Players can unlock and improve spells and abilities within a detailed, customizable magic tree, allowing them to tailor their gameplay experience.
Explore the richly detailed world of Ailur, a land filled with ancient secrets, dangerous creatures, and the remnants of forgotten civilizations. The game offers a dark and emotionally engaging story.
The game is launching after building significant excitement, with over 100,000 wishlists on Steam. A demo for PlayStation 5 reached the #2 spot on PlayStation, and the game gained a strong following on TikTok thanks to engaging content. The game’s sound design is particularly noteworthy, featuring original music by heavy metal artists like Kasey Karlsen, who has 376,000 followers, enhancing the immersive dark fantasy experience.
Releasing Kristala has been an amazing experience for our small, independent team. This game is the result of years of hard work, support from our community, and a shared passion for the world we’ve created over the past eight years. According to ACS Co-Founder and Marketing Director Sarah Schaffstall, launching the full game is a huge accomplishment, and it’s just the first step in an exciting future for the world of Ailur.
