Fans of HBO’s The Pitt will be happy to hear the show is coming back for a third season. Since its premiere in January 2025, The Pitt has quickly become one of HBO’s most popular shows, captivating audiences with the stories of the doctors and staff at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. The show’s unique format, where each season depicts a single, intense 15-hour hospital shift and each episode covers one hour of that shift, has really resonated with viewers.
Fans didn’t have to wait long for the second season of The Pitt. What’s remarkable is that the new season arrived almost exactly one year after the first. And even better, Variety announced that Season 3 is already confirmed, with a release date set for January 7, 2026 – just one day before Season 2 premiered!
Fans are eager to find out when Season 3 of The Pitt will be released, but no filming has been announced yet. Before that, though, you can watch Season 2, which comes out on January 8, 2026.
HBO’s ‘The Pitt’ Is on an Upward Trajectory (And Shows No Signs of Stopping)

It’s tough to launch a new medical drama with shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Chicago Med already so popular. But The Pitt immediately captured viewers’ attention. A key reason is its unique real-time format – each episode, lasting around 40-50 minutes, depicts events happening over a single hour.
Over the past year, The Pitt has become incredibly popular and has received numerous awards, including 13 Emmy nominations. It won three Primetime Emmys: for Outstanding Drama Series, and for Outstanding Lead Actor (Noah Wyle as Robby Robinavitch) and Actress (Katherine LaNasa as Dana Evans) in the episode “9:00 P.M.”
The Pitt also won two Primetime Creative Arts Emmys: Shawn Hatosy was recognized as Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his work in “9:00 P.M.”, and Cathy Sandrich Gelfond and Erica Berger won Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series. Given the consistently strong acting throughout The Pitt, it’s easy to see why Gelfond and Berger were successful in this category.
