Doritos launches wild $250k contest to build landmarks out of chips

To celebrate America’s 250th birthday, Doritos is holding a contest where fans can win $250,000 by building famous American landmarks using only Doritos chips.

On May 26th, the snack company launched the “Build Bold” contest, challenging people to build famous American landmarks out of Doritos chips and share photos of their creations online.

Doritos is holding a contest where fans can build sculptures of famous landmarks – like the Statue of Liberty, the Capitol Building, or the Washington Monument – using any Doritos they like. The winner will receive a grand prize of $250,000.

You can also enter a daily sweepstakes for a chance to win weekly prizes like a Doritos cooler, speaker, beach towel, and gift cards.

That’s right – you have a chance to win $250,000 by creating your own monument inspired by Doritos! Visit [website address – not provided in original text] for complete contest details and official rules.

Doritos launches “Build Bold” monument contest

This campaign is launching alongside a wave of patriotic promotions from brands celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026.

Doritos’ contest website has a “Workbench” area where fans can find helpful advice for building their submissions. It covers things like how to stack materials, what adhesives to use, and how to make sure their creations don’t fall over.

I’ve seen a couple of cool tricks for building amazing structures in games. One person suggested using curved pieces to make nice, rounded edges – it looks way smoother that way. Another player said the best way to get a really solid build is to start from the very bottom and just add one layer at a time. It seems to really help with stability!

The website features a fun “Chip Calculator” that figures out how many bags of Doritos someone might need to build a monument. It estimates based on the monument chosen – for instance, it says you’d need three bags to create a 12-inch-tall Washington Monument.

“No experience necessary, just boldness,” the contest page states.

After Doritos announced the campaign on X, people online responded quickly. Some joked about having a good reason to use those crumbs and broken chips at the bottom of the bag, while others started discussing which famous landmark would be the most challenging to build with chips.
