Destiny players are asking Sony to approve a new installment in the series – a third Destiny game – now that Bungie has announced it will no longer be updating Destiny 2.
On May 21st, the game studio revealed that the June 9th update for Destiny 2, called Monument of Triumph, will be its final update.
Although Bungie hinted that the Destiny universe isn’t over – stating they’re moving beyond Destiny 2 – other sources say a new Destiny 3 game isn’t being worked on right now.
Destiny 3 petition sails past 170k signatures
Following that news, a fan petition started on Change.org asking Sony, the company that owns Bungie, to approve the creation of Destiny 3. As of today, the petition has gained over 173,000 signatures.
As a huge Destiny fan, I’m part of a group reaching out to Sony. We’re really passionate about the future of the series and want to let them know how much we believe in Destiny 3. We think it could bring in a whole new wave of players and keep the amazing spirit of being a Guardian going strong!
The petition has received over 170,000 signatures in just three days. We’re asking you to sign our petition to Sony, urging them to create Destiny 3. Your signature will demonstrate the strong fan support for a new installment and help us move the series forward. Let’s work together to make Destiny 3 happen!
Bungie hasn’t indicated either way, whether there are plans to make a Destiny 3.
The studio is now likely prioritizing the success of their new game, Marathon. Released on March 5th, this extraction shooter hasn’t yet gained a large player base on PC and currently has fewer players on Steam than Destiny 2.
Season 2 of Marathon, which includes a new map, playable Runner, and more, releases on June 2.
