He’s tried countless restaurants and even created an app to share his pizza recommendations. However, one place really surprised him with its unusual delivery method.
Mike’s Underground Pizza delivers pies secret agent-style
On April 21st, Dave Portnoy posted a video review of Mike’s Underground Pizza, a restaurant located in Amityville, Long Island, New York.
The video depicts a man in a black suit exiting a gated property and handing a pizza to Portnoy. He then stood nearby while Portnoy addressed the camera.
Portnoy noted that Mike’s has a unique ordering process: customers must phone in their order before discussing delivery details via text message.
He explained that he was told to come to the black gate, where the kitchen is located. He described seeing people dressed in black, like they were attending a funeral, running around delivering pizzas.
After trying the pizza, Portnoy said it was exactly what he likes – crispy and delicious.
I’ve often criticized Long Island pizza for being too floppy and doughy, but this one is really good. I’d give it an 8.1 out of 10.
He admitted he was initially confused, but ultimately said he really liked the restaurant’s unique delivery method.
Mike’s Underground Pizza has a perfect 5.0 rating on Google, and customers consistently report having excellent experiences there.
People watching the video on YouTube made jokes about the delivery workers, with one commenter playfully suggesting they were like ‘Men in Black’ ready to wipe the customer’s memory if they didn’t give a good rating.
One person described the opening scene as resembling an illegal transaction, like buying drugs or a gun with the serial number removed.
Dave Portnoy’s pizza reviews often cause a huge surge in customers for the restaurants he features. One pizzeria owner, for example, had to hire twice as many employees after Portnoy gave her a score of 7.7 in January 2026 due to the increased demand.
