While adventuring through the expansive world of Crimson Desert, you’ll face various puzzles designed to test your problem-solving abilities. These puzzles appear in many forms, including Abyss Cressets, ancient ruins, and locked chests called Strongboxes found in estates.
You’ll come across a Strongbox early in the game at Hillside Manor. To open it, you need to rotate several dials until a picture of a mountain is perfectly aligned. It’s trickier than it appears, though!
Okay, so I was totally stuck on the Hillside Manor Strongbox in Crimson Desert, and I figured I’d share what I learned. This guide will walk you through how to actually solve it, so hopefully it helps you out if you’re having trouble too!
Hillside Manor Strongbox Puzzle Location

Okay, so I finally found the Hillside Manor Strongbox! It’s on the second floor of the Manor, which is in the northeastern part of Hernand city. I’ve included a screenshot showing exactly where the Manor is on the Crimson Desert map – hopefully, that helps anyone else looking for it!
Okay, so when you get to Hillside Manor, those guards are immediately going to try and take you down – they won’t let you just walk in. Honestly, I’d skip the fight entirely. Instead, I found you can climb through one of the windows around the back and sneak inside without anyone noticing.
Inside Hillside Manor, you’ll find the Strongbox on the second floor in the southwest corner. It’s in the master bedroom, tucked away in the corner of the room.
Hillside Manor Strongbox Solution
To open the Hillside Manor Strongbox in Crimson Desert, you’ll need to solve a dial puzzle. The trick is to turn the dials until the mountain image lines up properly, then press the button on the right side of the box.
This puzzle can be challenging, but we’ve simplified the solution for you. Here’s how to open the Hillside Manor Strongbox, working from left to right:
- Dial #1: Push down twice.
- Dial #2: Push down three times.
- Dial #3: Push down four times.
- Dial #4: Push down five times.
- Dial #5: Push down five times.
After completing the steps above, press the button on the right side of the Strongbox and turn it to open the device.
If you accidentally misplace the pieces, you can keep trying to fix it, or you can restart the puzzle from the last fast-travel point.

Once you open the Strongbox at Hillside Manor and find the Saint’s Necklace, you’ll need to be wearing a mask to actually take it. Just a reminder that masks are required to steal anything in Crimson Desert.
I suggest visiting the closest Blacksmith to improve your Saint’s Necklace. Upgrading it will boost its defense, making it even better in battle.
