A Chinese couple had a playful wrestling match at their wedding, and the person who lost agreed to do all the housework for the rest of their lives.
He Yinsheng, a wrestler from Guizhou province, found that his wedding was costing more than he’d planned. To save money instead of hiring entertainment, he and his bride decided to put on a wrestling match themselves.
His wife was on board with the idea, and even their parents, though initially puzzled, ended up supporting it. Instead of a typical wedding setup, the couple opted for a wrestling ring and a large sign that playfully pitted the “Groom vs. Bride.”
The match-up explained
The newly married couple each coached a team. Each competition was a best-of-three match featuring skilled performers executing powerful slams and takedowns.
Everyone cheered as the bride and groom had their turn in a playful wrestling match. They both put up a good fight, but the bride ultimately won by impressively tackling the groom. As the victor, she was officially excused from all household chores!
I read this amazing quote from the groom in the South China Morning Post, and it totally melted my heart! He was talking about losing a bet with his wife, and when asked about it, he said he had to lose, because he couldn’t bear the thought of her having to do all the housework. Seriously, what a sweet guy!
He explained that their wedding featured both food and entertainment, which made people excited to come. They were surprised and delighted when almost 300 guests actually attended—far more than they had anticipated.
The groom also hoped the event would help raise the profile of Chinese wrestling, as it doesn’t receive as much attention compared to wrestling in Western countries.
