Chipotle fans spot new crispy chicken item in rare menu test

Chipotle is testing a new crispy chicken option, but for now, it’s only available at one restaurant in California.

People first noticed the new menu item at a Chipotle in Tustin, California, after food bloggers Snackolator, BookofLeile, and Foodbeast posted pictures and videos of it online.

A new menu item called “New Crispy Chicken” is being tested in a few locations. According to a sign posted online, the chicken is described as hand-cut, juicy, and made without antibiotics, preservatives, gluten, or artificial ingredients.

The test quickly became a topic of conversation online, with people noting the new item was similar to the chicken served at Chick-fil-A and often added to Chipotle’s burritos and bowls.

Chipotle fans react to crispy chicken test

Chipotle’s new crispy chicken consists of breaded and fried pieces that customers can add to their burritos, bowls, tacos, or salads.

Currently, this item is only available at the Chipotle location in Tustin, California. Chipotle hasn’t announced if or when it will be available at other restaurants nationwide.

People online immediately wondered if the crispy chicken might be added to the regular menu if the test in California goes well.

Chipotle now often tests new menu items in specific locations or for a limited time before deciding whether to add them to the menu nationwide, like they did with Chicken al Pastor and their recent honey chicken trials.

The new crispy chicken test comes shortly after Chipotle’s CEO, Scott Boatwright, responded to concerns about serving sizes, suggesting customers simply request more food if they’d like a larger portion.
