Police in Shanghai, China were alerted to a woman who kept adjusting a traffic mirror because she believed it was impacting the feng shui of her home. Unfortunately, her actions led to multiple car crashes.
Feng shui is a traditional Chinese practice focused on arranging spaces – like rooms and furniture – to create harmony and a good flow of energy, often called ‘chi.’ The name itself means ‘wind and water’ in Chinese.
A woman in Shanghai grew worried about these mirrors when she experienced a string of misfortune. A feng shui expert told her the bad luck was caused by a traffic mirror positioned so it directly faced her house, which was believed to attract negative energy.
In feng shui, mirrors are considered very important. It’s believed they shouldn’t be positioned directly opposite a bed or front door, as this could bounce negative energy around and lead to bad dreams, restless sleep, or feelings of unease.

A woman tried to improve her fortune by moving a mirror, unaware that it helped drivers see oncoming traffic. After she adjusted it, accidents began happening frequently between December and January 2026 because drivers could no longer clearly see around the bend.
The company responsible for the buildings nearby then stepped in and put up a second traffic mirror across the street. However, she believed this new mirror also brought misfortune to her family, so she moved that one too.
Neighbors were annoyed by the traffic mirrors being constantly moved, so they held a meeting and asked the police to talk to the couple responsible.

According to the South China Morning Post, officials told the couple that moving the mirrors could be illegal and result in prison time. They also warned the couple they could be responsible for any accidents caused by the mirrors being moved.
The company then sealed the mirrors in cement so no one could change their position.

In an interview with Shanghai TV, the woman’s husband, Mr. Luo, strongly supported the feng shui master’s assessment and explained his wife’s behavior. He said, “We’re not evil people. We simply didn’t want a mirror meant to detect spirits focused on our home.”
A new app is gaining popularity in China that asks people living alone if they’re still alive. Users receive a notification and must respond to confirm, adding another unusual development coming from the country.
