The current season of the show will finish in May, but it’s been renewed for a fifteenth season, set to air this fall. However, the new season will mark a fresh start for the series due to significant changes happening with the production team.
According to reports, Andrew Newman is leaving her role as showrunner of the series. Newman has worked on the show for all 14 seasons, and has been in charge of creative direction as showrunner for the last three. She initially joined as a co-executive producer in the first season, becoming an executive producer by season six. In 2021, she became co-showrunner with series creator Derek Haas, and took on the role of sole showrunner in 2023.
Andrea Newman Says Goodbye to Chicago Fire
Newman described her time on Chicago Fire as the peak of her career, praising the incredible cast and crew. She shared that she was initially drawn to television writing because of Dick Wolf, and working with him and his team – Peter Jankowski, Rebecca McGill, and Anastasia Puglisi – was a dream come true. She also expressed gratitude to Derek Haas and the executives at NBC and Universal for their consistent support of the show. After 14 years, Newman said the cast and crew felt like a family, and she’ll always cherish her time working with them.
Victor Teran, who was a co-executive producer, will now be the showrunner starting with Season 15. He’s been with the show since Season 10. Sources say Newman made the decision to step down, but haven’t given a specific reason. The team behind Chicago Fire is sad to see her go.
Victor Teran Is Taking Over as Showrunner
Executive producer Peter Jankowski shared that everyone is sad to see Andrea leave. He said she’s been a vital part of Chicago Fire since it started and the show has flourished thanks to her leadership. They’re thankful for her dedication to mentoring new talent and are confident the show will continue to succeed with Victor now in charge.
Chicago Fire centers around the brave firefighters of Firehouse 51 in Chicago, and it was the first show in the popular One Chicago franchise, later expanded with Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med. The series features Taylor Kinney, David Eigenberg, Joe Minoso, Miranda Rae Mayo, Hanako Greensmith, and Jocelyn Hudon. This season has also seen cast members leave, including Jake Lockett (as Sam Carver) and Daniel Kyri (as Darren Ritter).
New episodes of Chicago Fire air on NBC every Wednesday. After they’re shown on TV, you can stream them on Peacock.
