Charlize Theron hits out at Timothée Chalamet for dismissing ballet, says AI will be able to do his job

Charlize Theron criticized Timothée Chalamet after he downplayed ballet, jokingly warning that artificial intelligence could eventually take his place as an actor.

Liam Hemsworth recently expressed his views on ballet and opera, suggesting they’re becoming outdated. In a discussion with Matthew McConaughey at the University of Texas, the ‘Dune’ actor said he wouldn’t want to work in those art forms, feeling they’re being unnecessarily preserved despite declining public interest. This came just weeks after he first shared these thoughts.

Chalamet quickly clarified his statement, saying he had “all respect for people in ballet and opera.”

The actor’s remarks caused a strong negative reaction from people in theater and film, including other stars. Now, he’s warning Timothée Chalamet that artificial intelligence could eventually take over his roles, too.

Charlize Theron says AI is going to do Timothée Chalamet’s job

Charlize Theron told The New York Times she thought Timothée Chalamet was thoughtless when he publicly discussed their on-set ballet experience.

I really hope I get to talk to him sometime. His comment about art – both acting and dance – was thoughtless, especially since these fields need our support. While AI might be able to replicate an actor like Timothée Chalamet in the future, it will never be able to capture the energy of a live dance performance.

Theron studied ballet at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York during the 1990s, but a knee injury ended her dance career. She explained that the rigorous training pushed her physically and taught her resilience.

Let’s not dismiss other artistic pursuits. My dance training instilled discipline, structure, and a strong work ethic. It was incredibly demanding – almost to the point of being harsh. I even developed blood infections from blisters that wouldn’t heal, and there were no days off.

I’m talking about pushing yourself to the absolute limit – to the point of exhaustion and even pain. It’s about developing a mindset where giving up simply isn’t an option, and you persevere no matter what.
