The Celtics and Lakers put on an exciting game over the weekend, and a record number of people watched it.
The Lakers had a rough night at home in Los Angeles. Despite a strong effort from LeBron James, the team couldn’t secure a win, and their season continues to be challenging.
Both teams have had losses since then, but their game last weekend was a historic success for the NBA, attracting a huge number of viewers.

So, NBC just dropped the numbers for the Celtics-Lakers game from this past weekend, and it turns out a whopping 5.6 million people tuned in to watch! Pretty crazy to think that many people were watching the same game as me.
That’s a massive number, and it means this was the most-watched Sunday night football game during the regular season in over two decades. It was also the most-watched regular season game on any night since 2017, not counting games played over the Christmas holiday.
Given their history as two of the sport’s biggest and most beloved teams, and their famously fierce rivalry, it’s no surprise so many people were captivated by the game.
The Lakers likely regret their disappointing performance and 89-111 loss. However, when Jaylen Brown plays this well, it’s incredibly difficult for any team to compete against him and the Celtics.
Jaylen Brown praised by LeBron James
Brown had an outstanding game, scoring 32 points with 8 rebounds and 7 assists. This performance pushed him into the top ten for most 30-point games in a season. He now has 28 such games, matching Jayson Tatum’s total from last season.
Earning his place as one of the greats 💪

This season, the player’s impressive performances have even gotten the attention of LeBron James, who believes he deserves to be considered for the MVP award.
Man, after the game on Sunday, I was hearing James talk and he had a point. He was saying, why isn’t anyone really talking about him when it comes to MVP? It’s like everyone wrote his team off before the season even started, and he’s been playing amazing!
He seems to have turned negativity into fuel for his team. With almost an entirely new roster after a championship season, he motivated them to perform well, and they’re currently playing excellent basketball. He’s really elevated his game and become a key leader.
It’s uncertain if Jaylen Brown will ultimately win MVP at the end of the season, but based on his current performance, it’s difficult to see anyone else taking the award.
