The show is back and quickly becoming a worldwide sensation on HBO Max. It’s currently the second most popular show on the streaming service globally, according to data from FlixPatrol.
Currently, you can’t stream Regular Show: The Lost Tapes in the U.S., but it should be available on Hulu later this year. In the meantime, you can watch new episodes weekly on Cartoon Network or buy them through services like Amazon’s video-on-demand.
Regular Show: The Lost Tapes Is a Global Streaming Hit
Regular Show: The Lost Tapes revisits the universe of the original Regular Show. Both series, created by J.G. Quintel for Cartoon Network, center around Mordecai and Rigby—a blue jay and raccoon who work at a park. The show typically follows Mordecai and Rigby as they try to avoid work, often frustrating their boss, Benson, who is a gumball machine.
As a critic, I’ve always enjoyed how “Regular Show” grounds its wild, imaginative plots with a fantastic supporting cast. Mordecai and Rigby are constantly dragging everyone else into their schemes – whether it’s the endlessly wise Skips, the hilariously obnoxious Muscle Man and Hi Five Ghost, or the sweetly eccentric Pops. And the voice acting? Top-notch. You’ve got the creator, J.G. Quintel, alongside talents like Sam Marin, the iconic Mark Hamill, William Salyers, and Janie Haddad Tompkins – it really brings the whole park to life.
Regular Show: The Lost Tapes Avoids Messing With Canon
The animated series Regular Show was a critical and fan favorite for eight seasons, airing from 2010 to 2017. It received high praise, with a 96% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and won several Annie and Emmy Awards. Creator J.G. Quintel has explained the show ended simply because he and his team felt they had exhausted their creative ideas.
It was a real challenge to come up with new ideas that would satisfy both the audience and ourselves, especially after doing so much over the years,” Quintell explained. “We felt like we’d exhausted most options – ‘We’ve already done that!’ – but we managed to create something fresh with things we’d never attempted before. I think it only worked because this was the culmination of such a long run, and we were bringing it to a close. Ultimately, we were happy with how it all came together.
The animated series Regular Show had a clear ending, and Regular Show: The Lost Tapes doesn’t change that. Instead, it offers extra stories that fit within the original eight seasons, showing what Mordecai and Rigby were up to at the park. The first episode, “Fix That Tape,” features Pops on a journey in the afterlife to repair his beloved video of Mordecai and Rigby.
You can watch Regular Show: The Lost Tapes on Cartoon Network in the US, and it will be available on Hulu later this year. Outside of the US, it’s currently streaming on HBO Max.
