After two years, Capcom has removed all microtransactions from Dragon’s Dogma 2.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 felt like a welcome change in gaming, offering players a brand new adventure from Capcom. The game world was vibrant and engaging, and its gameplay was easy to pick up – encouraging learning through experience. However, the inclusion of microtransactions sparked controversy among players who weren’t happy with the option to spend extra money for convenience.
Two years after its launch, the game’s developers made a surprising decision: they significantly reduced the number of in-game purchases. This change could revitalize the game and attract a wider audience.
Capcom Mustered the Courage To Take Down Most of the Microtransactions in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Gamers are celebrating Capcom’s decision to remove most of the microtransactions in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Features that allowed players to bypass challenges by paying extra – like reviving fallen characters, instant teleportation, and character editing – are being taken out of the game. These types of shortcuts are increasingly common, but often detract from the overall gaming experience and sense of immersion.
Capcom is preparing for the release of the Dark Arisen Expansion and is streamlining its available products. Starting June 25, 2026, several items will no longer be sold on PlayStation 5, Steam, and Xbox Series X/S.

Some players were unhappy with the initial game design, which allowed them to pay to speed up progress, feeling it diminished the fun and encouraged spending money instead of skillful play. However, the core game will now be permanently cheaper. It seems Capcom may have heard player feedback and is hoping for continued support for Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen when it releases later this year.
