The movie franchise has unexpectedly received a rather unfortunate distinction just before its new film comes out, and it’s not due to anything they did wrong.
According to TorrentFreak, the new animated movie The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender was the second most illegally downloaded film last week. It was only surpassed by the recent sci-fi drama Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling.
Here’s this week’s list of the 10 most pirated movies. It includes recently released films like Avatar: Fire and Ash, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.

I’ve been watching the anticipation build for The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender for almost a year now, and it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster. Back in December 2025, it was announced the movie wouldn’t be coming to theaters, and that was disappointing for a lot of fans who were hoping for a big-screen Avatar: The Last Airbender experience. But honestly, that wasn’t even the biggest challenge the production faced.
Around mid-April, a version of the movie appeared on social media, looking mostly complete but still a bit rough around the edges. Within a day, the entire film was leaked online, and millions of people started watching it on social media. Paramount and Nickelodeon quickly tried to remove these posts, but not before the film spread to various file-sharing sites.
Paramount hasn’t publicly stated its next moves to safeguard its films, but it’s demonstrated a willingness to confront other companies to do so. For example, in February, Paramount joined Disney in challenging AI company ByteDance for using their content to train its AI systems without permission.
Lawyers for Paramount Skydance have asked ByteDance to immediately stop using or creating content owned by Paramount, and to remove any existing Paramount content from its platforms.
Early reviews of The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender are very positive, which many expected. Co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino previously shared his enthusiasm for the film, stating in March that it was finished, fantastic, and they were eager to share it with fans. He thanked everyone for their interest and asked them to stay tuned for more updates.
