After it was reported that the AAA Avatar: The Last Airbender game was dead, the series’ co-creator has now confirmed that it wasn’t “canceled.”
In October 2024, it was revealed that Saber Interactive were developing an Avatar: The Last Airbender RPG set thousands of years before Aang, featuring an “all-new, never-before-seen Avatar.”
In June 2026, Shawn Kittelsen, the creative and production head at Paramount Games Studio, announced the project’s cancellation to IGN. However, Bryan Konietzko, a co-creator of the series, quickly reassured fans that this wasn’t true.
Byran Konietzsko says Avatar RPG is still in development
In an Instagram post on June 10, Konietzsko said, “Despite what anyone without actual knowledge may be chirping about, that big video game—the premise of which I came up with—wasn’t ‘canceled.’”
“Did it experience a big setback? Yep. These things are not easy (none of this is),” he continued. “Will it ever happen? Hopefully. Will it be better because of the reset? If I have anything to do with it, most definitely.”

He admitted the situation was frustrating, but promised to share official updates soon. He also confirmed he’ll be at San Diego Comic-Con, taking place July 23rd through 26th.
Paramount explained to IGN that while a high-budget ‘Avatar’ video game isn’t off the table, it could end up looking quite different than expected. This potential change in plans might be what Bryan Konietzko hinted at when he talked about a ‘reset’.
I was so bummed to hear about the Avatar game getting cancelled, and it sounds like Greg Baldwin – you know, the amazing Uncle Iroh from the show – was pretty upset too! He actually spoke out on social media, calling out Paramount for the decision. It’s just really disappointing to see something fans were excited about get scrapped like that, and it’s cool to see someone involved with the original series support us fans.
Let’s be honest… I’m 65, and I’ve simply stopped caring about what others think.
After working as a paralegal in the LA film industry for three decades, I got a close look at how studio executives operate.
And frankly, most of them are pretty slick and have no idea what they’re doing.

“The new regime at Paramount is straight up evil,” said the actor on X. “These soulless b*stards have nothing but contempt for a show about grace and redemption and the struggle against fascism.”
Okay, so even though some stuff leaked, I’m still super hyped for Avatar! We’ve got Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game dropping in July, and then a brand new Legend of Aang movie in October. I’m trying to avoid spoilers, but it’s gonna be a good few months for any Avatar fan like me!
