Ring, the security camera company owned by Amazon, is launching a new feature that uses its doorbell and outdoor cameras to help warn people about wildfires as they happen.
Ring Fire Watch, unveiled at CES 2026, is a new tool to help communities and emergency responders track wildfires as they happen. It combines live footage from Ring security cameras with up-to-the-minute fire information from Watch Duty, a nonprofit organization that shares these updates through its app.
Ring Fire Watch is a feature within the Neighbors app that helps during wildfires. It uses a combination of alerts, smart technology to identify potential fires, and lets users voluntarily share their security camera footage.
How Ring Fire Watch works
Watch Duty sends instant alerts to Ring and Neighbors app users when it detects a fire nearby. While a fire is happening, outdoor Ring cameras use artificial intelligence to scan for smoke and flames, and will send you a notification if anything is spotted. A Ring Protect subscription is needed for this to work.
Ring camera owners who set up alert zones can share photos from their cameras. These photos are sent to Watch Duty through the Ring app, helping the nonprofit and local authorities track the spread of fires in communities.

Jamie Siminoff, the founder of Ring, explained that they want to offer more specific information during emergencies. He pointed out that even though many Ring cameras were in the area of a recent wildfire, officials mostly used traffic cameras and general data to understand what was happening.
Ring claims its new Fire Watch feature, which combines local area views with artificial intelligence, will provide quicker alerts and a better understanding of rapidly developing wildfires.
