Amazon delivery driver caught taking cat from house claims it’s actually his missing pet

An Amazon driver seen on video taking a cat from a family’s porch says the cat actually belongs to him and had gone missing.

The story began circulating online in May after a Ring doorbell camera captured Joshua Gonzalez delivering a package to Brenda Wilson’s home in Bakersfield, California. He then reportedly took her cat, Junie, and left.

Wilson explained that her family had Junie for two years, since 2022, and reported him missing to the police. The Kern County Sheriff’s Office is now looking into what seems to be a case of cat theft.

Gonzalez now says there’s more to what happened. He explained that he recognized the cat while making deliveries and thought it might be his lost pet.

I was simply making my usual deliveries,” Gonzalez explained to KGET. “As I neared the house, I picked up Brenda’s package and continued as I normally would.

I heard a meow and was surprised to see a cat. When I looked down for a better view, I realized it was actually mine.

Gonzalez identified the cat by a unique “M” shape on its forehead, and recognized it by its eyes and build. He stated he has adoption papers proving he got the cat for his daughter in October 2025.

I only wanted to get my cat home, and now it is. It’s finally where it should be,” he explained. “It’s what anyone would do – if you lost your cat, you’d want to find it and bring it back. I found mine and took him home.

Wilson denies the claims made about Junie, stating her family has owned the dog for years and possesses photographic evidence to support this. She also acknowledged that Gonzalez previously lived nearby.

She explained that the people are claiming the cat is theirs, and she’s not sure whether they’re being dishonest, simply wanted the animal, or genuinely believe it belongs to them. However, she added that resolving the situation should be straightforward.

So, Amazon told everyone the driver wasn’t actually their employee, but worked for one of those delivery companies they use. They also said they’re cooperating with the police while they figure things out.

This recent event adds to a strange pattern of incidents involving Amazon delivery drivers and cats, as there have been previous videos showing drivers taking cats from people’s houses.
