Be warned: this story reveals who won Season 2 of The Golden Bachelor. If you haven’t finished watching yet, you can stream it with a Hulu subscription.
Lots of familiar faces from The Bachelor franchise were at the season finale of The Golden Bachelor last week as Mel Owens’ journey concluded. This included Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist, the couple from the first season, who famously divorced just three months after getting married. Since the release of Turner’s book, they’ve been publicly blaming each other, and sources say they may have been contractually obligated to attend the finale.
Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist, the couple who found love on Season 1 of The Golden Bachelor, had a live televised wedding. Naturally, the network wanted them present to support Mel Owens during the Season 2 finale. After the finale, where Peg Munson received Owens’ final rose but no proposal, sources revealed that Turner and Nist reportedly had a few requests before agreeing to attend. According to The Sun, they told producers:
Theresa and Gerry both accepted invitations to last night’s event, but with the understanding they wouldn’t be seated close together. They also requested to avoid being filmed together or having any direct interaction.
Gerry Turner brought his fiancée, Lana Sutton, to the event. Theresa Nist sat with her close friend, Leslie Fhima, who was a finalist on season one, and other members of the show’s cast. It seems Nist wasn’t dwelling on the fact that Fhima didn’t support her when Turner made claims about her in his book, Golden Years: What I’ve Learned from Love, Loss and Reality TV.
Even though the producers of The Bachelor are usually eager to manufacture conflict, they surprisingly kept their distance from the ex-couple, likely due to contractual obligations. According to one source…
As a movie buff, I heard the two leads were kept completely separate on set the entire time! It was apparently super awkward and tense when they first met, but thankfully, things smoothed out and they were able to work together without issue.
It would be great if Gerry and Theresa showed respect for Mel and Peg, even after a difficult season, and didn’t make their wedding night about drama. But with this show, you can’t always count on people to act rationally.
Gerry Turner, in his memoir, revealed some issues he had with Theresa Nist. He noted their differing lifestyles, specifically mentioning her preference for a fish, salad, and smoothie-based diet, which wasn’t for him. He also claimed she wasn’t honest about her finances and that they disagreed on a budget when house hunting, with her supposedly wanting to spend significantly more money than he was comfortable with.
Theresa Nist has rejected the accusations made about the house, stated that her ex-husband’s cancer diagnosis didn’t factor into their divorce, and largely disagreed with Turner’s version of events during their relationship.
Considering Gerry Turner’s book just came out and the Golden Bachelor finale aired only a week later, the timing of his first meeting with Theresa Nist is quite interesting. If reports are true, it’s logical they would have discussed and agreed upon certain conditions before filming again.
