Okay, Bonnie, time to put the screens away! The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5, released on November 11th, starts with a mysterious package arriving. Woody, Buzz, Slinky Dog, and Jessie all look scared. A tablet introduces itself as “Lilypad” and invites them to play. This is a playful nod to how much kids today love iPads and similar devices, presented here as a LeapFrog LeapPad. The tablet’s voice is provided by Greta Lee, who previously played an evil AI character on The Morning Show – now she’s the voice of an evil iPad!
The filmmakers, Andrew Stanton and Kenna Harris, shared that it’s been a funny and touching experience imagining how their classic toys would deal with modern technology, and they’re excited to give fans a first look. They also praised Greta Lee’s performance as Lilypad, highlighting her ability to bring both playful sass and genuine emotion to the character.
Fans will be wondering how Woody, voiced by Tom Hanks, ended up back with his friends after choosing to stay behind with Bo Peep at the end of Toy Story 4. He’ll reunite with Buzz (Tim Allen), Jessie (Joan Cusack), and Forky (Tony Hale), along with a new character, Smarty Pants – a talking training toilet voiced by Conan O’Brien. The fifth Toy Story movie, bringing the cowboy back into action, is scheduled to hit theaters on July 19, 2026.
