Nikki Glaser’s Monologue Sparked Some Backlash, But She Still Called Starring On SNL ‘A Dream’

Comedian Nikki Glaser hosted Saturday Night Live this past weekend. Before appearing in sketches, she did a stand-up routine as her monologue. Some of her jokes, which addressed sensitive topics like human trafficking and sexual assault, have received criticism. Despite the backlash, Glaser has expressed how much she enjoyed her experience on the long-running show.

What Did Nikki Glaser Say During Her SNL Monologue?

During her performance, comedian Hannah Glaser received laughter when she playfully called New York City the “original island” linked to Jeffrey Epstein. Later in the same routine, available on YouTube, she addressed the issue of sex trafficking, referencing a conversation about going to the nail salon with a friend. She joked that it’s difficult to connect with the nail technician, suggesting, “Maybe it’s slavery? I don’t know! She just seems trapped and unhappy.” Glaser also mentioned being “fixated on slavery lately.”

During her Golden Globes hosting gig, Glaser pointed out the irony of anti-trafficking posters commonly found in women’s restrooms, contrasting them with a hypothetical, disturbing message she imagined on men’s restroom posters. She then discussed how concerns about trafficking are prevalent among her younger friends, while she and her peers in their twenties were more focused on the threat of sexual assault, which was unfortunately often dismissed as a common occurrence, even joked about as a temporary, unpleasant experience.

The show faced criticism not only for its main topic, but also for a story about Nikki Glaser’s young nephew. Since it aired, many viewers on X (formerly Twitter) have expressed their concerns about the comedian’s views on human trafficking and pedophilia. Despite the negative reaction, Glaser seems to feel good about her time hosting Saturday Night Live.

As of now, Nikki Glaser hasn’t publicly responded to the criticism she’s received for her recent monologue. However, she’s faced similar reactions before, including after making jokes at the 2024 Roast of Tom Brady. She’s also spoken about being labeled as “mean,” even pointing to jokes she made at this year’s Golden Globes as evidence against that perception. She did, however, remove some material from that Golden Globes speech.
