Without Battlefield 6 Bots, You’d Be Waiting A Lot Longer, Producer Says

AI-powered bots are now common in many online multiplayer games, including popular titles like Fortnite, Mecha Break, Marvel Rivals, and the newest Battlefield game. Players have expressed frustration when games are filled with too many bots, as it detracts from the enjoyable competitive experience. A producer for Battlefield 6 has acknowledged this feedback and is addressing the issue.

According to Battlefield lead producer David Sirland, bots will only join matches in regular playlists if a game lobby is started by players and the pre-round wait time exceeds three minutes. In this case, bots will be added to fill the server and allow the game to begin.

If you don’t want to potentially wait indefinitely to play on your preferred playlist in less populated areas, you’ll need to stick with the bots to get the first server up and running. Don’t keep leaving just because you see them!

Sirland’s recent posts discuss the necessity of bots in a popular game that’s sold over 10 million copies. When the allotted time runs out, players can choose to play with bots or wait for more human players to join the game. For each new player who joins, one bot will be removed.

Okay, so once each team has 24 real players join, the game stops filling the rest of the slots with bots. That means everything left over is for actual players, bringing us to a full 32 versus 32 match. And just to be clear, these servers are always the biggest size allowed for that playlist – we’re talking 64 players total, never anything smaller.

Sirland explains that without this system, players might be stuck waiting a very long time – potentially indefinitely – in games that aren’t very popular. He clarifies that these bots are different from the Casual Breakthrough mode, which uses more bots to help newer players succeed and avoid being overwhelmed. He also mentions that there are “onboarding bots” used in some modes to help new players learn the ropes of online gameplay.
