The first ‘It’ movie is filled with connections to other Stephen King stories, but one hidden detail referencing ‘It: Chapter Two’ went unnoticed by viewers until now.
This new horror series is set 27 years before the first ‘It’ movie, during Pennywise’s previous period of activity. The shocking first episode showed just how dangerous the creature is, with a violent attack on several children that demonstrated no one is safe.
The filmmaker cleverly connected the show to films like The Shining and The Shawshank Redemption, and also included subtle nods to the DC Universe.
There’s a hidden detail in the second episode of ‘It: Welcome to Derry‘ that foreshadows a significant scare in the movie ‘It Chapter Two’.
Stanley Kersh is the husband of the monstrous Mrs Kersh from It: Chapter Two
In the second episode of ‘Welcome to Derry,’ Charlotte Hanlon (played by Taylour Paige) heads into town to get groceries. She stops at the butcher shop and chats with the owner, Stan Kersh. He’s married to Mrs. Kersh, a character viewers may recall from a particularly frightening scene in ‘It Chapter Two’.
In the 2019 film, Beverly Marsh (played by Jessica Chastain) goes to what used to be her father’s apartment, but discovers a woman named Mrs. Kersh living there instead.
At first glance, she seems like a kind, elderly woman, but it quickly becomes apparent that something is terribly amiss. A decaying wound on her chest, and a disturbing photograph of her father, Bob Gray (played by Bill Skarsgård) – who bears a striking resemblance to Pennywise – hint at a sinister truth.
While Beverly is distracted in the kitchen, Mrs. Kersh unexpectedly appears naked and starts twitching, revealing herself to be another manifestation of ‘It’. A terrifying, monstrous version of the old woman then emerges and attacks Beverly.
Stan’s appearance definitely indicates that Mrs. Kersh is currently in Derry, but it remains unclear how she became controlled by It. Hopefully, the show will reveal the answer to this mystery.
